The first thing you notice about the Casablanca is its striking design. The mattress border and divan base come in a very modern anthracite coloured fabric which i feel works very well in contrast to the cream mattress top and chrome gliders. Anyway looks aside its all about the comfort and support so lets dive in!!
The Casablanca is another Pocketspring and Memory foam fusion created by Sleepeezee. The spring unit consists of 1200 pocket springs with a 47mm layer of memory foam placed on top of the springs, the whole mattress is then encapsulated in a layer of foam and a tufted finish gives the Casablanca a medium comfort feel.

Well Sleepeezee must have known it was my birthday this week as I got to try out their top of the range bed – the Emperor 3000. How majestic does that sound!!
The Emperor 3000 has only just come onto the market and is part of Sleepeezee’s Latest 2009 range. The bed offers a very impressive 3000 pocket springs. That’s right. Count them if you want to!
I didn’t even think there was enough room to fit 3000 pocket springs into a mattress but Sleepeezee have managed it and with it a quite impressive looking bed.

Memory foam is very much like Marmite – you either love it or hate it. Personally I’ve never been a fan. The sleeping surface feels very peculiar and I am not sure that I want my mattress to mould to my body. For instance, what happens if you cant unmould?
Anyway, this is beside the point! My job was to test out the New Generation Touch Divan bed by Sleepeezee, which fuses memory foam and pocketsprings in the same mattress. This I thought was going to be a week of very unpleasant sleep but all in all I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

I’ve had the chance to review 2 Sleepeezee beds from the 2009 range, and while both the Casablanca and the Backcare Extreme were very comfortable, neither of them were exactly what I would choose if I was in the market for a new bed.
Which is why I was so happy when I was told that my demo Sleepeezee Baroness had arrived. Take a look at this and you’ll see what I mean.

Sleepeezee Baroness Divan Bed
Now, my bedroom doesn’t look as fancy as the one in the photo above, but for 4 glorious nights this bed did grace my bedroom. Here are some features to get you started:

I’m sure you’ll agree that historically all divan beds have looked very similar. Well, not any more. The new Sleepeezee Casablanca Bed looks unique and has a number of stunning features.
I’ve been nagging Sleepeezee to supply us with a test Casablanca since the first time I saw it, and on Monday, it arrived. A brand new, 5FT Kingsize Sleepeezee Casablanca, in all its glory.

Sleepeezee Casablanca Bed
On first impression, the Casablanca is striking. The black base and mattress sides let you know that there is something special about this bed before you even get a chance to lie on it.
Once unwrapped, I noticed a few quality features Sleepeezee add to their products that other manufacturers seem to forget.

Sleepeezee’s new Divine and Serene Mattresses are part of the Sleep solutions range for bedsteads.
Both the Sleep solutions Divine and Serene mattresses are produced vacuum packed for ease of transport and, because each mattress is sealed air-tight in the factory, they offer exceptional hygienic benefits.
This new range of mattresses compliments Sleepeezees existing range and is a testament to the research and development team as Sleepeezee have successfully produced a combination mattresses that includes traditional pocket springs with layers of memory foam or reflex foam. Many manufacturers have tried this in the past – with questionable results, but Sleepeezee seem to have perfected the marriage of both of these technologies.
Both the Serene and the Divine mattresses offer 800 pocket springs (in the 5FT Kingsize mattress) with a layer of Memory foam (in the Divine) or Reflex Foam (in the Serene).
These mattresses are a respectable 21cm deep and offer full head to toe anatomical support. The main benefit of these mattresses is the greater pressure point relief across the body. The mattresses can contour to your natural shape which means Optimum orthopaedic posture can be retained during the night.
Each mattress includes 100% hypo-allergenic fillings and is dust mite resistant – great news for allergy sufferers. For the best benefits Sleepeezee recommends using these mattresses on a bed frame with either a sprung beech or slatted base.
As with all Sleepeezee mattresses, the Divine and the Serene come with a 5 year Sleepeezee warranty.

Well , with over 10 years experience in the industry I’ve pretty much tested them all and I’ve yet to find a better comparison that matches the build quality and raw materials that go into the making of a Sleepeezee mattress.
Sleepeezee have been making beds for over 80 years and are dedicated to pocketspring technology. This type of spring offers a wealth of benefits over more conventional spring mattresses and ultimately offers more comfort.
Sleepeezee mattresses can have up to 2000 pocketsprings encased in the mattress. The springs are sewn into individual cotton pockets, each one offering independent support meaning the more weight applied to each spring the more support the spring will give. This technology offers huge benefits for 2 people sharing the same mattress as each person can get the right support for their sleeping requirements.
The Sleepeezee pocketspring system is not the only advantage of a Sleepeezee bed. Over the years Sleepeezee have perfected the type and amount of fillings that also sit on top of the spring system. These include natural fillings such as wool, silk, latex and cashmere usually mixed together in a series of layers that work in harmony with the pocketspring to produce a level of comfort that sets these mattresses apart from all its competitors.
Sleepeezee have also worked hard to get the little things right also. Cross stitched mattress handles to aid turning the mattress, multiple brass vents in the walls of the mattress allowing it to breath properly and hand stitched side borders making sure everything is kept in place for the lifetime of the mattress are a few of the many luxuries Sleepeezee put into their mattresses to make sure customers return again and again for the perfect night’s sleep.

A year ago I knew nothing about beds, and sleep was just something I did without considering how well I actually sleep.
Since working with the Sleepeezee Mattress people I’ve learned a thing or 2 (or 6) about getting a good night’s sleep, so I thought I’d share:
- Sleep before you need it – If you’ve got a heavy schedule coming up in the next few days, catch up on your sleep now. It’s possible to store up sleep so that when that late night happens you’re not as tired the next day.
- Fit people sleep better – It’s a fact that people who are more physically fit are more likely to get a good night’s sleep.
- Develop a sleeping pattern – Have you ever noticed how you can train your body to wake up at a specific time each morning? Your body likes a schedule. Try going to sleep at about the same time each evening and waking up at the same time each morning for a week and you’ll notice a difference.
- Watch your caffeine intake – Drinking caffeinated drinks within 2 hours of bedtime is not only likely to keep you awake, but it’s also likely to fill your bladder. If you feel the need to drink coffee late at night, you’re probably tired. Go to bed instead.
- “I’ve always been a bad sleeper” – Everyone can acheive better sleep. Try changing your bed, your bedtime or your eating & drinking habits and this will improve.
- Take an afternoon nap – If you can, try an afternoon powernap. 20 minutes at lunchtime will often lead to a better night’s sleep.

This week we had the chance to try out the Backcare Extreme, one of Sleepeezee Mattress’ new 2009 beds from the Backcare collection.
On first impressions the Backcare Extreme looks great.
As with all Sleepeezee products, the quality of build and attention to detail shone through.
Features of the bed include:
- 1000 Beautyrest pocketed springs
- Firmer tension springs
- 2 rows of side stitching
- Striped damask panel with complimentary border
- Tufted mattress with dual-density polyester fillings
- No need to turn the mattress
To be honest, the Backcare Extreme was a bit too firm for my liking. I can see how people who have back injuries and feel the need to sleep on a firm bed would like this though. The level of support is fantastic.
The demo bed we were given has 4 drawers, with 2 Drawer and Conti Drawer options also available.
Retail prices on the 5FT Kingsize range from around £500 to over £650 depending on where you buy. The Backcare Extreme is available in 3FT, 4FT 6, 5FT and 6FT sizes and can be purchased either as a mattress or as a divan set. A 6FT Zip & link option is also available.
Overall impression
Sleepeezee Mattresses have come up with a wonderful orthopaedic design in the Backcare Extreme. If you’re shopping for a firm bed or mattress, this should do the trick.

Sleepeezee beds was founded in 1915 and produced mainly flock or hair mattresses, pillows and bed bases.
A decade later, the spring interior mattress was invented and Sleepeezee was one of the first to pioneer production of these mattresses. As a result, the company soon expanded to have four factories in and around London and soon Sleepeezee and Mattress were becoming synonymous.

Today’s bed bases, on legs or castors, were also a Sleepeezee innovation and were soon adapted by the rest of the industry.
